Circular hike Andriano-Gaido-Sirmiano-Andriano

Whole day challenging but very varied circular hike from Andriano through the Gola del Rio Gaido gorge to Gaido and then to Sirmiano and back to the starting point.

From the village square along the whole length of Via Bottai, then along trail no. 15 into the Gorge of Rio Gaido. The gorge is moderately steep at the beginning, later very steep. It’s an approx. 1 hour climb through rocky shrubland to the ruins of Festenstein.

Alternatively, you can cross the small wooden bridge at the upper waterfall and follow trail no. 15A to Gaido. This variant is less steep, but has an exposed section, secured with a steel rope.

From Castelforte continue on trail no. 15 to Gaido and the Moarhof farm open for refreshments (check opening hours!). From Gaido the hike continues on trail no. 8 to Sirmiano di Sopra (restaurants Gasthof Apollonia and Jägerwirt) and then on trail no. 9 to Sirmiano di Sotto. Stay on trail no. 9, now a tarmacked road. After about 900 m at a sharp bend, turn off onto trail no. 5b until you reach the Bittnerhof wine tavern (check opening times). Continue to the right to the Regele and Kofler farms and then through beautiful mixed deciduous forest on trail no. 5 back to Andriano.
