Hike Gaid – Festenstein – Gaid

Short hike to the ruins of Festenstein. Check the opening days. 

Experience a moment of freedom within the historic walls of Festenstein, where you can enjoy the spectacular panoramic views of Val d’Adige.

Starting point: Moarhof farm Gaido (Appiano), open Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

From the Chiesetta dei 14 Santi Ausiliatori in Gaido (605m), follow trail no. 15 downhill, first along a small road and then along the edge of beautiful flower meadows. The trail passes between a barn and the Kofler farmhouse and ends in a forest road. After a few metres, the steep and difficult trail of the upper part of  Rio Gaido gorge begins on the right. There are wooden ladders attached to the ground. 20 minutes from Gaido you reach the ruins of Festenstein (652 m). Watch out for the special opening times! Return is via the same route.
